Spear the Fatty Bike Race joins Sturgeon Stampede Winter Festival, Feb. 14
New this year at the Sturgeon Stampede Winter Festival Weekend in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, will be the Spear the Fatty Fat Tire Bike Race on Saturday, February 14. The race will be a once-a-year chance to ride a fat tire bike on the groomed trails of Lake Winnebago towards Oshkosh and back.
The name of the event, Spear the Fatty originates from the many sturgeon fishermen who will be spearing that day and spectating.
The 15- and 30-mile races will start at 10 a.m. on the southern tip of Lake Winnebago where all the other Sturgeon Stampede activities are held. The races will end there as well.
Spear the Fatty is an event for seasoned fat bikers as well as those who have never been on a fat tire bike. Fat bikes, with tires 3.7 inches and wider, will be available at the event for a nominal rental fee. They rental bikes are available on a first come, first serve basis by emailing race director Gloria West at [email protected].
There will be two start times for the 15 mile course. Riders can choose the 10 a.m. start or the open ride at 12 p.m. which will not be timed.
Each rider will receive a rooster winter cap, food and a medal. Awards will be given to the top three women and top five men as well as the fastest team. There is a significant discount for entering as a team of 4 or more. To register go to DuTriRun.com.

This will be the 10th year of kiteboarding, wind surfing and kite-wing races, plus the “Big Air” kiting competition.
A bonfire and fireworks will light up the ice after dusk on Friday, February 13. For a complete schedule go to wissa2015.com.
World Ice & Snow Sailing Championships
For 2015, the Winnebago Association of Kiteboarders (WAK), Wind Power Windsurfing Center and the Fond du Lac Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (FACVB) have teamed up to host the World Ice and Snow Sailing Championship (WISSA) February 9 through February 14.
This thrill seeking silent sport competition will bring international kiteboarding, windsurfing and wing athletes to Lake Winnebago.
“While the WISSA event will be a first for the 2015 sturgeon season and the Sturgeon Stampede, the world championship races will resemble what we have been doing for the for the past 10 years,” said Dan Deuster, president of WAK. “Our group has been hosting the Sturgeon Stampede on the opening weekend of sturgeon spearing season for over 25 years, and have entertained fishermen, spearers, families and silent sport enthusiasts with our activities and festivities. There is nothing better than being on the ice doing what you love.”
