Chequamegon 100 organizers set date, incorporate
The Chequamegon 100 mountain bike race is set for June 20 in Cable, Wisconsin, with a new ambitious organization behind it aiming to put on similar events in neighboring Minnesota.
With the incorporation of Advocate Cycling Productions, SBC, in Minnesota, “we intend to grow the idea of the Chequamegon 100 to other areas,” organizer Tim Krueger wrote at chequamegon100.org on February 1.
“For 2015, we have also acquired the Minnesota Rusty Ride on the Cuyuna trails (in northern Minnesota) and we will be running the first ever Gitchee Gumee Traverse on the urban singletrack of Duluth, Minnesota. We have also formed thegreentunnel.com as a central resource for our events, as well as cycling advocacy and trail issues for the upper Midwest.”
Krueger wrote that Advocate Cycling Productions is set up as a “benefit corporation” that “upholds our mission of giving 100 percent to the trails.”
He added, “The Chequamegon 100 will continue on as always. The new structure just allows us to better plan for future growth of other events, and hopefully spread our idea that events can be put on for the good of the trails they are on.”
Meanwhile, the Chequamegon 100 details were announced for 2015 and registration opened for the 100- and 62-mile races. Starting this year, the event will use a lottery system to fill its 250-rider limit. Entries need to be in by February 14.
Similar to the previous two years, the races will start at Lakewoods Resort and end at the River’s Eatery in Cable.
