The Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa has a brand new grassroots running club. The Bad River Reservation, located along the shores of Lake Superior in northern Wisconsin, started the club with four kids on July 7, 2020. Since then, membership has grown to over 20 members. The youngest runners being only 7 years old!
The brainchild of Fred Pero, a Bad River tribal member and Youth Coordinator for the Mashkiiziibii Youth Services Department, this running club inspires youth and adult involvement, and has done so quickly! Fred uses his life-long passion for sports and years of knowledge and experience as a wrestler, cross country and track runner, as well as a basketball player to help guide and motivate members.
In just eight weeks, four of the club’s top runners have already logged over 60 miles each. The members of the club have shown incredible consistency in their growth as athletes and runners. From the very first run, the members have taken it upon themselves to help motivate, support, and push each other to set higher goals. Contact via: 715-685-7840 ext 1486 • [email protected]
