Another fast girl to watch in local cross country

Molly Seidel rightly captured the headlines over the weekend with her victory in the Foot Locker National Cross-Country Championship.

Another local runner, Rachel Werking, appears to be chasing right off her heels.

The 13-year-old from Pilgrim Park Middle School in Brookfield finished fourth among 261 runners in the USATF Junior Olympics Cross Country Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Werking covered the 4-kilometer course in 14:23:47, roughly 17 seconds off the winning time of Chloe Pigg.

Werking stood out last season in the Racers Against Childhood Cancer series, placing in the top three in the 10K races against adults.
