Cyclists set to pedal for food in Tri Faster charity ride

Posted

Cyclists answering the call of Tri Faster coach Lauren Jensen will pedal for food on Saturday during a four-hour session in the St. Martin of Tours gymnasium.

Riders will have to bring their own bikes and stationary trainers, and their own food.

Their efforts will raise money for the church's food pantry, and Jensen is counting on more than 100 local athletes to help generate $7,000 via entry fees and donations.

Jim Cummins, a member of the TriWisconsin team, participated in the inaugural Pedal for the Food Pantry, and will be one of the leaders lending encouragement on Saturday.

"It's more of a social thing," Cummins said. A good way to get in a workout. It's harder to spend four hours alone on your trainer in the basement than with those people around."

Cummins said the first Pedal for the Food Pantry was an emotional event, just months after the crash that injured Jensen and killed her training partner, Jeff Littmann. Putting their efforts to a good cause helped Jensen and others work through the pain and grief.

The pedals will be turning from 8 a.m. to noon, in the gym at 7963 S. 116th St. in Franklin.
