Are you a female cyclist between the ages of 35 and 50 and live in the Madison, Wisconsin, area? Do you regularly cycle at least six hours or 60 miles per week? Are you interested in how healthy your bones are now, and what cycling is doing or can do to maintain or enhance your bone health?
If so, you may be candidate for a study by researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Health Osteoporosis Clinical Center in Madison. It initially involves a one-hour study visit in which participants will complete a short survey and have their bone mineral density and body composition measured.
You may benefit directly from participating in this study if you have not previously had your bone mineral density measured. You will not be paid to participate in the study but you will receive bone mineral density testing free of charge.
Approximately 56 individuals will participate in this study, the purpose of which is to determine if bone health in female competitive cyclists is different than the bone health in female recreational exercisers.
