To talk about how best to enjoy the current warm and sunny weather, Wisconsin Public Radio's Joy Cardin turned this morning to Tom Held, a frequent contributer to Silent Sports and the "Off the Couch" blogger for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
You can hear the 45-minute discussion here.
Held said it looks like mid July, rather than early March, with the number of bicyclists and runners on the Oak Leaf Trail in Milwaukee near his home. He lamented losing out on a little more cross-country skiing, but added that with Wisconsin's weather, "We take what we get."
With temperatures in the 70s this week, ice has disappeared quickly from area lakes. Cardin wondered if this has allowed for an early canoeing and kayaking season, too. If my father is a harbinger of anything, it is. He was out kayaking on Lake Mendota in Madison on Wednesday -- before going for a bike ride the same day.
The bad news? Listeners in Burlington and northern Illinois reported already encountering mosquitos en masse.
It is too early for that.
