Two years ago, Gwen Jorgensen was a rookie triathlete preparing for her first race as a member of the USA Triathlon elite development program.
Today, she's a member of the U.S. Olympic team and an athlete earning headlines and feature coverage at SI.com.
In a piece posted Tuesday, Sarah Kwak tracks Jorgensen's path from high school swimmer and runner at Waukesha South High School, to All-American runner at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and her race in London to secure a berth in the Olympics.
Once a swimmer and once a runner, Jorgensen has been swept into her new multi-discipline sport.
"I have a huge passion for this now," she says. "I've really grown to love it and the people around it.... as long as I'm fortunate enough and healthy enough to compete at this level, I want to continue to do it."
