Will Smith won the eighth annual Pewaukee Triathlon by a comfortable margin on Sunday, and joined two other fellow Madison-area competitors on the top step of the awards podium.
Smith, from Mt. Horeb, beat Pete Metz, of Germantown, by nearly five minutes in the sprint distance race that included a swim in Pewaukee Lake, a 16-mile bike lap and a 3.1-mile run.
In the women's division, Jackie Arendt, from Madison, took the victory over Waukesha-based pro Heather Haviland.
The race drew more than 1,200 participants.
In Pleasant Prairie, more than 1,000 women participated in the Trek Women's Triathlon.
Kimberly Goodell, 31, also from Madison, was the fastest of them all, winning the race in 1:11:48. Stacey Kiefer, from Antioch, Ill., and Andrea Myers, 35, of Wellston, Ohio, joined Goodell in the top ranks.
