My belated congratulations go to Tim Cigelske on the completion of his year-long Beer Run.
The local runner/blogger/beer drinker launched his streak, a run and a beer every day for 365 days, in part to find routine in the chaos of his hectic life.
"Why am I doing this?" he pondered at the start. "The past year has been so insane, I needed something to follow it. My daughter arrived, our house was flooded, and our house was saved. I feel like I need a victory lap of sorts for surviving."
He started the streak running miles on a track on Oct. 3, 2010, his 29th birthday, and drank an Abita Save our Shore to rehydrate.
Roughly 1,800 miles and 700 beers later, he reached the dual milestones, 30 and 365.
Cigelske blogs about beer and fitness for Draft Magazine and holds a steady job in the communications department at Marquette University.
He wrapped up his streak with this note: "If there was ever any question that beer and running belong together, this year has erased any doubt. It's shown me time and again that balance can be achieved while doing what you love to do every day. I've never felt better."
While Cigelske reached the finish of a year-long endeavor, his streak is not over.
"I don't see any reason to stop now, so I'll just keep going as long as I feel like it," he said. "I'm having fun and have never felt better. The last beer I had in my 20s was a Mother Earth Brewing Second Wind. I think it's an appropriate beer to start another decade."
