A Kenosha County judge ordered Quashae Taylor to be tried on the felony charge of negligence in the death of a cyclist she hit while driving on Aug. 7.
The 18-year-old pleaded not guilty, after the preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Taylor allegedly closed her eyes shortly before her car struck Devin Kunich on Highway H, near Pleasant Prairie. He was headed home from his job at the Bristol Renaissance Fair and did not have lights on his bike.
The driver told police she did not see Kunich on the road.
She is legally blind in one eye, but an optometrist testified during the preliminary hearing that she is not required to wear eye glasses while driving. Her attorney, Terry Rose, sought a dismissal of the felony charge, arguing that the fatality was an accident not a criminal act.
