This Spring, the Girls on the Run program in Milwaukee is helping to train 70 girls to run a 5K race - Laura's Smile, on June 4.
The training helps build self-respect and the coaching is geared to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development.
As Lora Strigens, the president of the local chapter, tells it: "Running is the tool we use to teach bigger lessons about life."
To help raise money for scholarships and shoes, Girls on the Run will host a tailgate part on Saturday at Miller Park, before the game between the Brewers and the Colorado Rockies. Tickets and information about the event can be found at the Girls on the Run site.
