The Wisconsin Governor's State Trails Council is implementing a number of changes in order to ensure more complete representation of Wisconsin trail users. These changes, a result of recommendations contained in a 2009 report, include increasing the number of members on the council to include nonvoting representatives from five previously unrepresented user groups. The five open positions to be added represent the following trail user groups: four-wheel drive vehicle drivers, users of boards and small wheels (in-line skates, mountain boards, etc.), nonmotorized water trail users, off-highway motorcycle riders and off-road bicycle/mountain bike riders.
Changes also include a revision of the State Trails Council's mission statement, details on how to become a member of the council and how to participate as a member of the public.
Applications for the five new open positions on the State Trails Council are due February 15. The application form and instructions, position description and overview of the application process are available on the State Trails Council website. Go to dnr.wi.gov/org/land/parks/trails/council/index.html#apply.
