Life and Loss on Superior’s South Shore

Posted

Sue Leaf has crafted a book that is a great read for all who love our nearby Lake Superior.
and its neighboring lands. She weaves a history of her family’s connection to the Lake with much background on the special and unique aspects of the Lake’s south shore.

Living in Ashland, WI as a young family cemented a connection resulting in the purchase of a cabin in Port Wing, WI. This became a centerpiece of their lives and further explorations even as her husband’s career move returned them to Minnesota.

Chapters about the geologic history, ecology, human cultures and their impacts are interesting and well researched, adding much to the reader’s knowledge of the area. Themes of change and adaptation flow throughout the book. The final sentence is both artistic and reflective, especially for anyone in the autumn of their life, as I am.
