Minnesota DNR cancels one of Twin Metal’s mineral leases

On Sept. 11,  the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) canceled one of two existing Twin Metals’ mineral leases in Northern Minnesota. 

Twin Metals has dozens of leases in Northern Minnesota, and this lease was eligible for cancellation this year. After a review, the DNR determined that Twin Metals had not met the requirements of the lease. The lease cancellation is effective on Nov. 10.

Previously, Governor Tim Walz issued an executive order prohibiting all permitting or exploration for non-ferrous mining in the Rainy River Headwaters.
