Just 21 days after filing the original patent infringement case, Strava has dismissed the case against Garmin. The lawsuit alleged patent infringement over segments and heat maps, claiming Garmin copied Strava’s technology. Fitness industry observers noted the lawsuit appeared to be a negotiation tactic by Strava, which planned to force Garmin to discuss new API guidelines requiring third-party apps to display the Garmin logo on shared activities.
With the announcement, Strava launched a software update. At the top of every activity on the home page, the device used to record it is displayed, such as a Garmin Forerunner.
