The Board serves as the governing body of the Association and works closely with the Executive Director to accomplish our ambitious strategic goals. The Board meets in-person four times annually, and each board member serves on at least one committee. Typically, committees meet once in between each full board meeting. Occasionally, we plan a non-working get-together to enjoy our friendships and shared love for the Trail.
The SHT board invites those who are passionate about welcoming the next generation of trail users to the SHT. This year the board is looking for expertise in law, finance, marketing/development, real estate, and/or resource management. Candidates with diverse backgrounds, identities, and professional experiences are encouraged to apply to ensure a broad range of skills, perspectives, and voices are represented on the SHTA Board.
The board welcomes all applicants, particularly if you live in one of the four counties the Superior Hiking Trail traverses — Carlton, St. Louis, Lake, and Cook.
If interested, we ask that you introduce yourself by sending a letter to the SHTA Governance Committee, no later than April 19, 2026 at the two email addresses below.
Please include the following information:
Share your interest in joining the Board.
The talents, skills, and interests you would bring to the Board.
What experiences you hope to gain by serving on the Board.
Any other information you’d like to share.
Please send your letter and any questions to Executive Director Lisa Luokkala at lluokkala@superiorhiking.org AND to Board Vice-Chair Myrtle Turnquist at myrtleturnquist@gmail.com to apply.
