The Silver Bay Trailhead Center cost an estimated $8.5 million, funded by a combination of state and federal sources. Ida Rukavina, the Iron Range Resource and Rehabilitation commissioner, said they also helped support the project. The project took seven and a half years to complete.
“We have other grant programs that start July that are for public works infrastructure. You know again all of the work that we do with businesses and refunding small businesses and our business energy retrofit grants all of those types of programs will be reopening,” Rukavina said.
Minnesota Representative Roger Skraba of District 3A attended the ribbon cutting. He said this new trailhead center will bring more visitors up the North Shore.
“Everyone that can get out and just experience the camaraderie, the alone time, you know, whatever you need, it’s here, in the outdoors. Use the outdoors. We’re blessed to have so much public land. Up here we have beyond abundance of public land,” Rep. Skraba said.
The new trailhead center is now open and is also located at 109 Outer Drive, Silver Bay, MN 55614. Visitors will continue to see additional improvements in the coming months.
