Founded in December 1975, the main object of the UPRRC is the promotion and encouragement of running, particularly long-distance running. The UPRRC functions as a liaison between runners and race organizers for running events, including triathlons, and publishes Running Amuck, a bimonthly newsletter.
Running Amuck includes articles, race calendar, and race results, and is mailed to the members. The UPRRC has members across Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsula, as well as also Wisconsin and a few other states. With its broad distribution of members, the club does not host events, and instead promotes road and trail running events organized by others, which currently number about 150 annually across the UP. The UPRRC is funded by membership dues with individual, household and race/corporate categories.
