Mora Ski Club
The MORA SKI CLUB still plans on most of our regular events this season, with some accommodations for safety and social distancing. In addtion, we are offering “Adult Learn to Ski” class on Sundays in January- the 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th from 1:00-3:00, all abilities, classic and skate techniques. Registration is through Mora Community Education. Also being planned – our Fast Track Kids Ski program at the same dates and times as the adult classes this year. We usually meet after school in the elementary school but that is not feasible this year. We are asking everyone (adults and kids) to come ready to ski. However, the Nordic Center building may not yet be open, plus it would be too many inside at one time in any case!
We will be holding our Skijoring races and Fat Tire bike races on January 23rd this year. Start times and distances are still being hammered out, plus our COVID plans for keeping everyone safe. Interval starts comprise the program for the dogs and probably a wave start for the bikes. Currently, we’re planning on holding some form of our usual Lanternloppet on January 30th, starting at sunset on the Nordic Center Trails, but again, we are still working on how to make it happen as safely as possible. On February 23rd we will host the Founders’ Classic race(s).
Our club likes to hold those races at the Northern Practice loops where the Mora Vasaloppet was originally started but that is very dependent on snow conditions so we make that decision usually in early February. Also under consideration, a last chance “Family Fun Day” near the end of the ski season. That is also really snow dependent! And that is also going to be really dependent on the COVID situation, we usually have campfires with hotdogs, marshmallows, etc. so that is definitely a “wait and see” situation. We also usually “host” at the Nordic Center on Sundays but we have currently cancelled that for this season. Again, we’re not sure about the building being open at this point and we don’t want to encourage social gatherings.
