Big weekend of Nordic Skiing in Duluth, Jan. 30-31
The Duluth Cross-Country Ski Club is pleased to announce three exciting cross-country ski events in Duluth this upcoming weekend, January 30-31. The weekend’s events offer something for outdoor lovers and skiers at all ages and levels.
Winter Trails Day: On Saturday, January 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Duluth Cross-Country Ski Club will host Winter Trails Day at Spirit Mountain. Winter Trails Day is a national event promoting the health, fitness and social benefits of snow sports and local trails. Enjoy free cross-country ski lessons, snowshoe demos, ski demos from Salomon and others, a bonfire, hotdog roasting and more.
Thefolks from Courage Center Duluth will also host an adaptive ski camp out on the Spirit ski trails that day. Register for the free cross-country ski lessons at duluthxc.com.
Boulder Lake Night Ski & Snowshoe: On Saturday evening, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center will put on its annual tiki-lit Night Ski & Snowshoe event, co-sponsored by the Duluth XC Ski Club. After enjoying a beautiful ski or snowshoe under the firelight, participants are welcome to gather for hot beverages and snacks around the bonfire. Participants must bring their own ski/snowshoe gear. The cost is $10 cash or check at the door. For more info, go to duluthxc.com.
Lake Superior College Nordic Spirit Ski Race & Tour: On Sunday morning, January 31, at 10 a.m., the Lake Superior College Nordic Spirit Ski Race & Tour will be held back up at the Spirit Mountain Nordic Center. The Nordic Spirit course winds through the majestic woods of Spirit Mountain, providing breathtaking vistas of Lake Superior and the St. Louis Bay. Skiers will be treated to some of the most beautiful and challenging terrain in the region.
The race course will use the Spirit Mountain trails and the infamous connector to Duluth’s best kept secret – the Magney-Snively Ski Trail system. Choose between 14K classic or 14/26K skate races. Proceeds go to support the Duluth Cross-Country Ski Club. Register in advance online at nordicspirit.
